TotalEnergies Uganda Partners with Kyambogo University on Energy Innovation
TotalEnergies Uganda has signed a memorandum of understanding with Kyambogo University.
The partnership focuses on joint research, internships, and innovation in energy technology.
University students will benefit from mentorship and practical training in solar and fuel technologies.
This initiative is part of TotalEnergies’ “Young Talent Development Program.”
Selected students will work on energy efficiency projects at TotalEnergies facilities.
The collaboration includes funding for research and laboratory equipment.
Workshops and seminars will be co-hosted to boost knowledge exchange.
The initiative seeks to develop local capacity in energy and engineering fields.
Kyambogo will act as a regional hub for academic-industry energy collaborations.
TotalEnergies will also host annual energy innovation competitions at the university.
Winners of the competitions will receive grants and startup mentorship. This move is seen as a step towards bridging academia and the corporate sector. Students will access data for academic research from TotalEnergies operations. The agreement will run for an initial period of five years.
Lecturers will receive industry exposure to enhance practical teaching. A steering committee has been established to oversee implementation. Both parties hope the partnership will foster job creation in the energy sector.
The university vice chancellor lauded TotalEnergies for investing in Ugandan youth. This aligns with Uganda’s National Development Plan III goals on skills development. Implementation begins with a solar installation audit project in the campus. Stakeholders have been urged to support similar public-private collaborations.
